DIVE AND SEA MOLOKINI CRATER
MOLOKINI CRATERis located 3 miles off the southwest shore of Maui, only a 15 min. boat ride from the Kihei boat ramp.
An ancient volcanic cinder cone rising out of deep water, located between the islands of Maui and Kahoolawe.
Molokini is Hawaii's premiere marine preserve. The average visibility is 100 feet or more inside the horseshoe shaped island, and on the outer slopes and walls.
Inside Molokini, is a vibrant thick coral reef, as well as a number of sand channels to explore. Sea life is abundant from swarms of tame fishes, a variety of eels, white tip reef sharks, octopus, lobsters, nudibranchs,...etc. Larger pelagics such as jack-fish, manta rays, eagle rays, and grey reef sharks. Venture inside to take advantage of the cleaning stations. Even dolphins and humpback whales have been seen visiting the inside of the crater periodically!
We can show you 6 different dive sites inside the crater.
On the outside there's 3 different drift dives on the outer slopes...including THE BACK WALL. The dives on the outside and backside of Molokini are also teeming with fish life and beautiful coral, as well as healthy black coral! In addition to exploring the wall, don't forget to turn your attention to the deep blue abyss. You never know what large pelagics may come swimming by, we've even seen whale sharks!
Drift diving outside the rims and on the back wall require excellent buoyancy control, as there is no line for descending or ascending (the bottom is 300').
